2009 ASHRAE Region VI CRC Speakers
The ASHRAE Iowa Chapter would like to thank the following speakers for participating in this conference:

Lynn G. Bellenger
P.E., Fellow ASHRAE 2008-2009, Treasurer
American Society of Heating, Refrigerating
and Air-Conditioning Engineers

Lynn G. Bellenger, P.E., Fellow ASHRAE, is a partner with Pathfinder Engineers, Rochester, N.Y.
As the Society’s treasurer, Bellenger serves on the Board of Directors and ASHRAE’s Executive Committee, chairs the Finance Committee and is vice chair of Members Council.

“ASHRAE is recognized throughout the industry for high quality, authoritative technical material in our Handbooks, standards, guidelines, design guides, and educational courses,” Bellenger said. “The design community is relying on ASHRAE’s leadership in sustainable design and responding to guidance on integrated building design for significant advancements in energy efficiency. ASHRAE promotes professional growth through volunteer service, educational products and research. For the volunteer, ASHRAE provides an opportunity to collaborate with colleagues from diverse backgrounds. For the practitioner, the design guides, professional development courses, and other products offer practical solutions to today’s design challenges. For the researcher, ASHRAE supports fundamental research in HVAC&R to develop more elegant solutions for the future. There’s never been a better time to be an ASHRAE member!”

Bellenger is a member of the Indoor Air Quality Design Guide Steering Committee, the Joint Expo Policy Committee, and technical committee 4.1, Load Calculation Data Procedures. She formerly served as vice president; chair of Technology Council; and as a member of the Greening ASHRAE Meetings and Exposition ad hoc committee.

Bellenger is a recipient of the Exceptional Service Award, the Distinguished Service Award, two first-place ASHRAE Technology Awards and the Lincoln Bouillon Membership Award.

She received a Bachelor of Science in mathematics from Principia College and a master of science in environmental science from Rutgers University.

Mark Hegberg
Mark Hegberg is Product Manager for Balancing Products with Danfoss Heating Controls and a former hydronic system design instructor at the B&G “Little Red Schoolhouse”.

Mark has over twenty five years of experience in the HVAC field in the areas of Hydronic Systems, Testing & Balancing and Direct Digital Control systems. He has worked in the areas of field applications, installation, testing/commissioning, design and consulting. Mark is also the past chair of ASHRAE TC 7.7 Testing & Balancing, and TC 6.1 Hydronic & Steam Design. He has served on numerous ASHRAE standards projects, and committees and is the holder of the ASHRAE Exceptional Service award.

The class topic; “Hydronic Systems Design” will focus on providing a strong knowledge base of fundamentals for systems design utilizing the diversity of experiences that Mark has picked up from the wealth of ASHRAE experiences he’s collected over the years. While rooted in fundamentals, energy efficiency and sustainable system features and operation notes will also be included making this class applicable for more than just new system designers. The goal of the class will be to provide the attendee with a functional knowledge and comfort level that can be applied the “next day” on their hydronic projects. The class is also a great opportunity for those “non-engineering” key players in successful system implementation such as service technicians, operators and test and balance personnel to brush up on their hydronic systems experience and get a “Cliff’s Notes” version of how these important systems are designed.

Glen Shepard
Glenn Shepard lives in Nashville, Tennessee, and has been in management for 24 years. He’s the author of six books, including the #1 national best seller, “How to Be the Employee Your Company Can’t Live Without”. Managers in over 20 countries subscribe to his weekly newsletter, “Work is Not for Sissies”.

He’ll be presenting three different sessions at the ASHRAE Central Regional Conference on May 8, 2009, covering recruiting, hiring, employee retention, managing the different generations in the workforce today, and how to manage problem employees.

There are plenty of great reasons to attend this conference, but getting to hear Glenn speak and ask questions afterward may be the best!

Paul Torcellini
Ph.D., P.E., Principal Investigator

Paul Torcellini is the principal investigator for the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE’s) Commercial Building National Accounts effort. He leads the commercial buildings research team at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), a DOE national laboratory.

An expert in the energy performance of commercial buildings, Dr. Torcellini has extensive experience using computer simulations to design very low-energy buildings. He manages commercial buildings research at NREL, including teams responsible for developing next generation simulation capabilities and advanced monitoring of buildings.

Among many awards, Dr. Torcellini received two ASHRAE (American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air-Conditioning Engineers) Technology Awards for his high-performance buildings work, two Energy User News magazine Efficient Building Awards, and a 2000 NREL Staff Award for Outstanding Community and Professional Service. He is the author or coauthor of numerous articles, reports, and papers, and a frequent speaker in a range of venues, including events sponsored by ASHRAE, the American Institute of Architects, ACEEE (American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy), and the National Building Museum.

Dr. Torcellini earned a B.S. in mechanical engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute, and an M.S. and a Ph.D. in mechanical engineering at Purdue University, specializing in passive solar design and commercial building controls. He is also an adjunct professor at the Colorado School of Mines.
